“Prevention is better than cure”. As the proverb says, we have formed a health awareness centre [HAC] in Madurai Institute of Social Sciences to prevent illness by generating awareness This centre is the brain child of Dr.D.V.P.Raja, Founder of Madurai Institute of Social Sciences. In the year 1984 MISS- Organized a National Level Workshop on “ Health for all by 2000 AD. That time 250 doctors from all of medicine students awareness participated in that National Workshop. We have conducted a number of programmes for the benefit of the students of schools and colleges of Madurai.
We have introduced Yoga and Meditation and we are in touch with the experts in this field. This health centre not only helps our students but also the public. We invite the students from different schools and colleges and educate them on the importance of public health and how to safeguard them from non-communicable diseases with the help of experts. We also encourage all systems of medicine such as Sidha, Auyurveda, Homoeopathy and Naturopathy. Our aim is to prevent illnesses
Details of Health Awareness Centre:
Health is an integral component of human life which is closely related with living conditions of man. It is influenced by both environment and culture. Man has degraded his environment by pollution and culture by leaving healthy habits. Many healthy habits like adequate physical activities, harmless diet practices through traditional foods and stress-free life activities have been left out as a consequence of social change. Changes in culture have left mankind in new pattern of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart problems, obesity, hypertension, skin diseases etc. Now we are in a position to seriously work for reviving left out healthy practices and adding new healthy practices to our day to day life because of alarming rise in health problems. In order to achieve these goals , Madurai Institute of Social Science has formed a “Health Awareness Centre” with the following objectives:
Objectives
To create awareness among the people about healthy diet practices.
To provide knowledge on diseases and diet pattern for controlling and preventing various diseases
To educate and train the public regarding YOGA ASANAS, PRANAYAMA and MEDITATION to lead a stress-free life.
